Valued Customers,

I wanted to keep you updated on the vessel and barge traffic situation. Over the past day, we have had two of eight inbound vessels make it to our docks. Today, we expect three more vessels to arrive. We have been in constant communication with agents, Coast Guard, and the Houston Pilots to express our concerns about all vessels called into our docks, and will continue to re-iterate our message daily.

As far as barge traffic, we have been trying to work barges in the order they tendered. Again, if a barge can’t make it up as a result of its location in the channel, we are moving to the next barge in line, without dropping the tender of the stranded barges. We will keep this process up until the channel has resumed normal activity. We appreciate your patience as we try to manage traffic as effectively as possible. If there are any questions, please feel free to reach out. Thank you!

Subject: Vessel/Barge Traffic Management

Valued Customers,

Due to the third party incident on the ship channel and the ship channel’s subsequent closure, our vessel and barge traffic has been affected since last Friday.  We have fielded many inquiries, and have patiently waited for vessels and barges to make their way to and from our docks. At this current time, vessels have sailed form Ship Dock 1, Ship Dock 3, Ship Dock 4, and North Dock 2. We still have vessels that are unable to sail at our KMET facility and North Dock 1. We have been in constant communication with vessel agents, the Coast Guard, and the Houston Pilots to express not only KM’s interest, but also the interest of our customers in moving vessel traffic in and out of our facilities.  As of this time, the draft limitation of 34ft is still being enforced according to these various groups. We will continue to communicate with these groups, but please be advised that our requests are only taken into account, and they do not guarantee that any one vessel will leave or come in at any given time.

In regards to barge traffic, we are working in order of “ready-in-all-respects” (RIAR) and will continue to do so. If a barge is unable to make its way to our dock due to its location in the channel, we will move on to the next barge RIAR in order to manage the long list of tendered barges. We will not be dropping tender if a barge is unable to make it because of circumstances in the channel.

If there are any questions or concerns about our ability to manage traffic, please feel free to reach out. Thank you!
