HSC Update

Houston // Open to outbound vessel traffic only 1015/11th March

PCT Summary

Here’s an update from today’s call:

NWS:  Dense fog the last few days.  A bit different today, more patchy dense fog rather than totally socked in.  Dense fog advisory until 10 am, with visibilities of about a mile from 10 am.  Water temps are coming up a bit and winds might be a bit stronger, but still some dense fog from 9 pm through the early morning on Tuesday.  Winds might increase, so might get a break tomorrow afternoon.  With the higher winds, less fog on Tuesday night into Wednesday (maybe not any).  Storm system comes through on Wednesday.  The cold front passing will end the potential for fog for at least Thursday and Friday.  Houston Pilots:  Moved 16 outbound and 4 inner harbor shifts yesterday.  On the current schedule are 40 arrivals, 44 departures and 4 inner harbor shifts.  Planning to start one-way outbound first (start moving in the upper channel, as the waterways closer to the Gulf are still needing a bit of time for the fog to clear), then 2-way traffic later today as visibility improves closer to the coast.  Gal-Tex Pilots:  8 vessels pending, with 3 to hit the schedule later today.  Already dispatching pilots to vessels.  Brazos Pilots:  Sailed 1 vessel yesterday.  Going to start 1 sailing later this morning, then 3 inbounds.USCG:  May meter traffic if needed.  Will look at possibly running tugs inbound while ships are headed outbound.

Next call tomorrow at 09:00.  Please have needs to me by 08:00.

Thanks,

.SYNOPSIS FOR HIGH ISLAND TO MATAGORDA SHIP CHANNEL OUT 60 NM...

Sea fog may linger over parts of the bays and coastal waters

through early afternoon but most fog should erode with stronger

winds this afternoon. Conditions are still favorable for sea fog

development tonight so another advisory may be needed. Winds

increase more Tuesday into Wednesday with small craft advisories

possible. A line of showers and storms may move through Wednesday

with a weak front which should keep sea fog from developing again.

A stronger front is expected Thursday night with much stronger

northerly winds on Friday.
